Studio Luddite is a New York City based design studio passionately engaged in the exploration of materials, functionality, and manufacturing techniques. Using enduring materials and simple geometric forms, we create utilitarian objects of distinction and integrity.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Our name is a subtle tribute to the Luddite movement, which was established in the 19th century by artisans who fiercely defended the value of handmade craft in the face of industrialization. The Luddites advocated for the preservation of craftsmanship and skilled labor. This resonates deeply with our core belief that the objects we surround ourselves with should be fabricated by craftsmen and with intent.
ABOUT LEX
Studio Luddite was established by Principal Lex Zee, an industrial designer who, prior to developing the Studio Luddite collection in 2020, specialized in designing custom lighting within the design trade industry. Lex's philosophy prioritizes an intentional design process as the foundation for impactful work.
